It’s nearly impossible to rank Elle Fanning’s fantastic red-carpet looks. One day, she is an ice princess in a glᴀssy gown; another day, she spices up a little black dress with leather opera gloves; and yet another day, she steps out in the most glamorous version of a transparent nighty.
The actor never misses on the carpet, but honestly, she may have just delivered her most exquisite look of the year. The ensemble in question made its debut at the 2024 Governors Awards. It was a pale-green straight-off-the-runway look from Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2025 ready-to-wear collection, and at its base, it looked like luxurious lingerie.
The slipdress was entirely see-through and embellished with clear crystals and shimmery silver jewels all over that were designed to look like dripping strands of flowers. The floor-length dress had a fur trim that glided across the carpet as Fanning walked.
But that was not all. The slip had a matching short cape—also transparent, also bejeweled, and also adorned with powdery-green fur at the sleeves. The piece was tied with a delicate ribbon at the neck, under which Fanning wore a striking Cartier diamond necklace with light-green jewels that cascaded into the plunging neckline of her dress. She capped off the look with silver heels with clear straps, plus some diamond rings from Cartier.
Her chic blonde bob was styled in a casually wavy, side-parted hairdo, and, as usual, she kept her makeup rosy and minimal.
Earlier this year, Fanning spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about her and big sister Dakota Fanning’s different but complementary personal styles. “I think Dakota’s very classic. I’m classic too, but with a twist,” she said. “She’s a little bit more laid-back. There have been times when she’s looked at me and she’s like, ‘Okay, you’re going to wear that?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ And I think she loves me for that, but I kind of make a bolder choice, whereas she just wants to look beautiful and clean and chic. I get to be the crazy one. I think that younger-older sister dynamic is classic.”
