Last night saw the UK premiere of the Oscar-tipped new movie My Week With Marilyn – but its star was nowhere to be seen.
Michelle Williams, who is already been talked about for an Academy Award for her startling transformation into Marilyn Monroe, was unable to attend the London launch, so it was left to co-star Emma Watson to take centre stage.
The Harry Potter star, Burberry model and face of Lancome didn’t let the side down, looking stunning in a black skirt and white peplum top by Jason Wu for S/S’12.
The 21-year-old actress plays wardrobe mistress Lucy in My Week with Marilyn.
The film is based on the memoirs of Colin Clark, third ᴀssistant director on the 1956 production of The Prince and The Showgirl. Monroe was lured in to play opposite Sir Laurence Olivier in the ill-fated film but was already finding life in the spotlight too much to bear – a feeling that Emma Watson understands all too well.
After posing with Eddie Redmayne (who plays Colin Clark) and Kenneth Branagh (the film’s Laurence Olivier) on the red carpet at last night’s premiere, she said: ‘I certainly feel a lot for her and for what she (Marilyn) went through.’
‘I think she was just trying to find her feet in the midst of this kind of crazy circus that went on around her, and trying to find some sort of balance and some sort of normality in her life, and I can definitely relate to that.’
My Week with Marilyn opens nationwide on November 25.
