Last night saw the broadcasting of the 2020 MTV VMAs – marking the first major awards ceremony in the US since the Covid-19 pandemic. While performances took place in audience-less venues across New York City, celebrities also walked a socially distanced red carpet, with digitally enhanced backdrops.
However, it did mark a welcome return to red carpet fashion – which we’ve been so deprived of in recent months – and the attendees pulled out all the stops. Bella Hadid, who was on hand to present Lady Gaga with the inaugural ‘Tricon’ award, opted to nod to the naked dressing trend so often ᴀssociated with music event red carpets (where the wearer is firmly of the belief that less is more).
The 23-year-old opted to wear a sheer black top – with strategically placed panelling – and loose-fit tailored trousers, by Albanian designer Nensi Dokaka. The young designer recently graduated from Central Saint Martins and is known for experimenting with sheer fabrics, asymmetric shapes and cut-outs, in a primarily monochrome colour palette.
Hadid finished her look with strappy sandals, hooped earrings and a spiked, ’90s-inspired updo.
