Attention, celebs: If you’re thinking of slapping on some LED lights as a easy way to get in on the Met Gala’s tech theme tonight, Katy Perry is here to remind you that she’s been there, done that. Six years ago, if you must know.
“I know a couple of people are coming like lit up and stuff like that, and I’m like, ‘I did that in 2010, you’re late!,'” she told PeopleStyle during the launch party for her new Katy Kat line for CoverGirl.
As you may remember, the pop star turned up at the 2010 Met Gala in a Cute Circuit gown that glowed in a rainbow of colors, thanks to its 3,000 built-in MicroLED lights. And while the dress didn’t seem particularly related to that year’s theme of American Woman: Fashioning a National Idenтιтy, it ultimately gave her bragging rights for this year’s gala.
But since she’s already done the light-up dress thing, what does Katy have in store for tonight’s red carpet? Something that coordinates with black lipstick and that hopefully doesn’t involve being upstaged by Lady Gaga.
“I’m going to do something, but I’m sure like Gaga is going to arrive on drone, and I’ll just be like, ‘Grrr! Again! sнιт!” Perry speculated.
Just to drive home the fact that Katy Perry owns the light-up dress as a general fashion category, here’s a sH๏τ of an LED number designed by Roberto Cavalli from her Prismatic World Tour in 2014. And if anyone at tonight’s gala happens to wear a bra adorned with smiley faces or strawberry shortcakes, well, Katy did that first too.
