Just like her nemesis Taylor Swift, it seems Katy Perry is also a little bit country. At the 51st American Country Music Awards on Sunday night, the singer switched sides, choosing to attend the Nashville event over the iHeartRadio Music Awards with her pop peers. There’s no reasonable explanation as to why this decision was made other than the fact that Perry is a big fan of Dolly Parton — she presented her with the Tex Ritter Award — and loves theme dressing.
For the evening, Perry, who also performed a duet with the living legend, a medley of Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors” and “Jolene,” wore two looks that fit into the Cowgirl Barbie category. Unsurprisingly, Jeremy Scott, who also enjoys a motif, made the ensembles for her.
On the red carpet, the “Fireworks” artist chose a metallic blue skirt with a fringe hem and matching moto jacket with a pink crop top underneath. She accessorized with H๏τ pink earrings, a thick cowhide-print belt, and cowboy boots in the same pattern in a shade of light pink.
Perry made a quick change to take the stage but still dressed as if she were ready to rumble (but, like, literally with a bull in a ring). The 31-year-old slipped into a silk shirtdress in pink with yellow lapels as well as fun fringe embellishment. She stuck with the same color theme for her boots and cinched her waist with the same big cowhide-print belt. Parton also shone in a rainbow tuxedo blazer.
It should also be noted that Perry wore a Bump It in her hair all night, taking a tip from Kacey Musgraves, country music’s world record holder for biggest hair bump of all time.
