New York City’s Times Square came to a standstill Sunday night when Dua Lipa emerged from a mᴀssive truck-turned-stage at 42nd and Broadway to perform hits from her new album, Radical Optimism.
The pop star made a surprise appearance at the iconic Manhattan location, surrounded by mᴀssive, glowing billboards with her face on them, and delivered an energetic 20-minute show amid the chilly, drizzling weather.
Despite being fresh off serving as host and musical guest on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, Lipa looked incredible in a sheer black maxi dress embellished with white crystals in a wavy design. Over the LBD, she layered on a long black coat in distressed leather, and she finished the look with the tallest pair of glossy black platform boots we’ve ever seen—an interesting shoe choice for a rainy-day performance.
Lipa wore a black manicure, bronzy makeup, and a glossy lip. She had her fiery hair down in nonchalant waves.
Welcomed by a crowd of adoring fans and pᴀssersby, Lipa started off with “Training Season” and moved on to dance hit “Houdini” and the emotional track “Happy for You.” The singer wrapped up her express set with new bop “Illusion.”
Lipa has been spending time in New York City to promote her album, which was released on May 3—and she’s had quite a busy time. After doing SNL on Saturday and her Times Square show on Sunday, the singer is expected to hit the carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art tonight for the 2024 Met Gala.
